Where Should We Have Our Daughter's First B-day Party?

Agustin-Sullivan, 2007-08-06 07:08:05
My baby is turning one this month and I have to send out the invitations soon. BUT my husband and I can not agree on where to have the event. I wanted to have it at my sister's house because she has a nice big house in the suburbs. She always entertains so she has everything that we would need. Plus she has a "man cave"(poker table, pool table, flat screen etc.) in her basement to keep the guys from getting all mopey about the social gathering. My husband says that he doesn't want to feel like a guest at his own daughters b-day party. I understand where he is coming from, but I don't want to have her party at our crappy apartment in the city. We don't have enough space, or air conditioning. We already thought about a park or forest preserve, and have decided that it is too labor intensive bringing all the food, tables, chairs, grill, and all that. And Chuckie Cheese is really not our style. I need help I need to send out the invitations soon! Does anyone have a suggestions?

My granddaughter had her first birthday in a public playground close to their apartment. Good luck! There were tables already there and the other kids could play on the playground equipment. She won't know the difference and you can save all the anxiety for later birthdays! If you absolutely 'have to', what about a party room in a restaurant? Other restaurants simply give you a corner. Is there some reason you need to 'super-size' it for her first birthday? Some family restaurants have a room for something like this.

  • Sounds like a party for the adults...
  • The child should be in its own home ...
  • she is a baby...
  • she will need to go to bed ..
  • she may get cranky..
  • Have a small B-day party for her...
  • then YOU grownups can celebrate you being parents for a year and party hardy.
  • Grandma = SEW
    • This first party seems to be important to you so I would ask your hubby if he could grin and bear it for one day.
    • You could still do outside (weather permitting) and just ask people to byo lawn chairs.
    • Make foods that don't require a grill and just one table for serving.
    • Buy a bunch of balloons and a cute table cloth and bring the coolers.
    • Relax and have fun and take many pictures!

  • why not rent a room somewhere?
  • i know where i live you could rent like basements of churches and stuff.
  • they already supply tables and chairs, and all you would have to do is decorate, and supply the food and cake.

As for Chuck E Cheese, shes still too young for that, but McDonalds does really great birthday parties for which includes 10 happy meals, goody bags, a cake, ice cream and a hostess who sets up, entertains, serves food, and cleans up. If you will be inviting kids it works out really well. We did it for my daughters 2nd birthday and it was great and soooo easy and stress free! If its going to be mostly adults, again, sister's house with just close friends and family.
